<h1>NCP1400AV30EVB Application Field and Working Principle</h1><p>Evaluation boards are used to simulate component performance in order to help designers check the circuit parameters before real-world application. The NCP1400AV30EVB evaluation board uses a Fly-Buck flyback DC/DC converter and NCP1400A controller to implement the offline small-scale SMPS design. By measuring the input and output voltages of the NCP1400AV30EVB, the designers can get the necessary evaluation information for their projects.</p><h2>NCP1400AV30EVB Overview</h2><p>The NCP1400AV30EVB evaluation board integrates the NCP1400A synchronous Buck controller detailed for offline flyback converters with the maximum operating frequency of 65kHz. The DC/DC SMPS design that is realized uses the fly-buck topology and other components to achieve a constant current output with the output voltage 6V up to 30V. The design features a wide operating frequency range of 10-65kHz and the output power of up to 6W. The evaluation board includes the NCP1400A controller, a low-side MOSFET, a Schottky diode and a transformer that are designed for off-line Fly-Buck SMPS applications.</p><h2>Working Principle</h2><p>The NCP1400AV30EVB evaluation board is designed to implement the fly-buck DC/DC SMPS design in EMI-sensitive applications. The NCP1400A controller is used in the fly-buck configuration to deliver a constant current with the output voltage up to 30V. When the voltage is applied across the transformer’s primary winding, the current will flow in. During this time, the gate of the MOSFET will open and the energy will be stored in the transformer’s secondary winding. The stored energy is then used to power the load after the MOSFET is turned off. The primary winding current will flow out and the voltage will drop. At this moment, the NCP1400A controller will adjust the gate of the MOSFET to start the cycle again.</p><p>The NCP1400AV30EVB can work with wide input range from 80Vac to 400Vac. The board contains blank pads on the output side and PCB copper pours to ease the possible heat sinking applications and also for better thermal performance. The evaluation board design also includes onboard test points, such as VIN and VOUT for designers to measure their circuit easily.</p><h2>Applications</h2><p>The NCP1400AV30EVB can be used for a wide range of applications in industrial, telecom, and consumer electronics. In the industrial applications, the NCP1400A controller can be used to control numerous DC/DC applications involving step-up/down, buck/boost, and flyback topologies. For telecom applications, the NCP1400AV30EVB can be used for PoE (Power over Ethernet) applications, such as high-speed data transmission over an Ethernet cable and power supply to the server.
