NCP161AMX320TBG Application Field and Working Principle NCP161AMX320TBG is a low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator with a capability of output down to 0.9V. This capacitor-free, low noise device contains a P-MOSFET output stage and is suitable for use in a variety of battery-powered, calibrated supply and low noise applications.The NCP161AMX320TBG is able to deliver up to 320mA of output current and has a voltage dropout of 140mV at a full load. It contains a read/write control pin (WREN) which provides the user with a precise voltage setup capability, adjustable from 0.9V to 7.0V. For improved dynamic load regulation, the NCP161AMX320TBG also provides an additional current output pin (CS). The device features an electro-migration protection circuit designed to improve reliability and helps to prevent voltage drops when operating under heavy load transients. NCP161AMX320TBG also has very low quiescent current consumption, making it an ideal choice for power-sensitive applications.Application Field:NCP161AMX320TBG is particularly suitable for use in a wide range of battery-powered applications such as mobile phones, PDAs, MP3 players and digital cameras. Its low dropout voltage and high output accuracy allows the NCP161AMX320TBG to be used in power supplies for various circuits such as audio and video systems, DC-DC converters, LDOs and regulators as well as in other low noise power supply circuits. Working Principle:The NCP161AMX320TBG linear voltage regulator consists of an input, output, feedback and error amplifier stages connected in series. It starts out with a feedback loop which helps the regulator maintain a stable output voltage by comparing the feedback voltage to a reference voltage. The error amplifier then amplifies the voltage difference between the two charges and moves it to the output stage which drives the pass elements, usually a MOSFET, to let the appropriate amount of current flow. As the output voltage of the regulator is determined by the ratio of the feedback voltage and the reference voltage, the voltage setup of the NCP161AMX320TBG is performed with a write enable pin (WREN) which allows for an adjustable range from 0.9V to 7.0V. The NCP161AMX320TBG also provides an extra output pin which simplifies the circuit design, reducing the system PCB area, number of components and complexity.In conclusion, the NCP161AMX320TBG low-dropout linear voltage regulator is an ideal choice for providing a precise, stable output voltage for low noise, power-sensitive circuits subjected to heavy load transients.
