NCP3123MNTXG is a DC-DC switching regulators integrated in a green and small 8-pin package. It is mainly used for unlocking the potential of space saving applications like small motor drivers, wireless charger and small lighting systems. To achieve its high efficiency, the device consists of two integrated Regulated Charge Pumps (RCP) with only one inductor per channel. It allows for simple 2-phase DC/DC design with total power up to 2.4W.

Working principle:

The NCP3123MNTXG is based on a fixed frequency current-mode, 2-Phase architecture which provides high efficiency over a wide operating range. The device works with a single inductor per phase, reducing the external components required and simplifying the total design. By optimizing the current and voltage feedback paths, this device can ensure stable operation over wide input and output voltage ranges and high output power levels.

At the start of operation, the NCP3123MNTXG control circuit starts generating a pulse-width-modulated (PWM) signal to drive the high side and low side MOSFETs. The switching of the MOSFETs will create an oscillating current through the inductor. As the current increases, a voltage drop is developed across the inductor, causing the voltage at the output to rise. The output voltage is compared with a reference voltage and the PWM signal is adjusted until the set output voltage is reached.

Inside the chip, the enable function can be enabled or disabled during operation. When the EN is disabled, both MOSFETs will be turned off. This will allow power saving when the device is idle or not in use. The built-in thermal protection will protect the chip when the junction temperature exceeded the normal operating range. The power input of the device can be cut off too.
