The NCP5008DMR2G is a high-efficiency, high-side, 1-channel N-channel MOSFET PMIC-LED Driver that offers a unique combination of internal protection features, analog dimming control combined with a fixed frequency pulse frequency modulation (PFM) control architecture. This PMIC-LED Driver is designed for use in portable consumer and automotive lighting applications, such as display backlighting, decorative lighting and indicator, emergency, and brake lights.
The NCP5008DMR2G offers three control options for setting the output voltage, these being pulse width modulation (PWM), incorporated ramp heating (IRH) and analog voltage control. PWM mode uses a fixed Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal for output voltage or brightness control – This can be 2kHz and adjustable with the external resistor. IRH mode uses either adjustable or fixed ramp rates with an internal oscillator to slowly lower the output current until it is zero. This provides a dimming range greater than 100:1. Analog voltage control allows the output voltage to be set via an external resistor network and gives a range of 0V to108V.
The NCP5008DMR2G has a low startup voltage of 0.95V and a low drop out voltage of 0.2V allowing the PMIC-LED driver to operate with a wide input voltages up to 42V. The device is rated for currents up to 8A. It also features opposing logic pins which allow the device to be used in both PNP and NPN logic configurations.
Next, we’ll discuss the NCP5008DMR2G’s manifold of safety features. It has programmable thermal protection with programmable hysteresis. This allows the device to shut off the output if the temperature exceeds a programmable safety threshold.
