NCP5306DWR2 Application Field and Working Principle
NCP5306DWR2 is one of the special purpose voltage regulators from ON Semiconductor. It is a low-side switch controller with low-dropout (LDO) regulator integrated in a 7-pin SOT–23 package that monitors the voltage set by an external resistor divider connected to the voltage output. It can be used in many applications such as motor control, solenoid activation, dimmable LED lighting and driving low voltage DC fans.The NCP5306DWR2 consists of three major blocks, which are a low-dropout (LDO) regulator, a low-side driver, and a charge pump. This regulator includes an accurate 0.5V reference voltage and a low offset voltage comparator. The low-dropout (LDO) regulator is a voltage regulator providing a regulated output voltage. It monitors the output voltage using a resistor divider connected to the output to control the switching of the low side driver. The low side driver is a high breakdown voltage FET that switches at a pre-specified level or accuracy level. The charge pump provides a regulated current for faster response time and improved system stability.The NCP5306DWR2 also has an adjustable soft-start mode which ensures smooth ramp-up of the output voltage and prevents inrush current and voltage overshoot. The output voltage can be adjusted to either 2.5V, 2.7V, 3.3V, or 5.0V by modifying the external resistor divider (R1 and R2). Additionally, the output voltage is protected from overvoltage, undervoltage and over-current conditions by its integrated protection features. The NCP5306DWR2 also has current consumption efficiency which makes it a suitable regulator for battery-operated systems. The device is also enables to be shutdown by simply connecting the EN pin to ground and the device will consume less than 100nA of supply current.
