NCP5603MNR2G is a Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) designed to drive high brightness LEDs from 3V to 38V. It can be used either as a discrete driver or as part of a larger system control solution. NCP5603MNR2G provides a wide range of functionality for a range of lighting applications including dimmerable LEDs, multiple-zone LEDs and temperature sensing applications. The device has a synchronous rectifier which can reduce losses in the lighting circuit.Application field: NCP5603MNR2G is an ideal solution for driving high efficiency LEDs used in general illumination, studio lighting, GRO lamps, landscape lighting, and decorative lighting applications. It is also suitable for automotive, industrial and consumer lighting applications. It features an adjustable current limit and open LED detection, making it suitable for LED module control applications.Working principle:NCP5603MNR2G employs a current-mode control technique with a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller for dimming the LED. The device has a maximum output current of up to 75 mA. A single master oscillator sets both the switching frequency and the PWM dimming frequency. The PWM dimming frequency is adjustable from 10 kHz to 320 kHz.The device has two N-channel MOSFETs for driving an external LED load. The N-channel MOSFETs are controlled by an optimized PWM control waveform, making them switch faster and with less power dissipation, thus increasing efficiency. Furthermore, the device supports up to two parallel LED strings with a maximum total load of 150 mA, providing flexibility and cost savings.To protect against open-LED and over-current conditions, NCP5603MNR2G can automatically detect the fault, latch it, and momentarily disable the LED drive. The device is protected against over-temperature conditions, as it will shut down its switches when the junction temperature reaches its over-temperature threshold.In addition to its efficient and robust control features, NCP5603MNR2G is designed to reduce external component count by using a high frequency synchronous rectifier. This reduces the power loss, increases the battery lifetime and reduces system cost.The device is offered in a tiny, 4-mm x 4-mm, 16-pin QFN package and is reflow-soldering compatible. It can operate at up to 85 degree Celsius junction temperature. Furthermore, it has an auto-restart feature that allows it to resume operation after loss of power. As such, NCP5603MNR2G is an ideal solution for high brightness LED control applications.
