NCV2574DW-ADJR2G is a switching (step-down) converter regulator for power management applications. This device utilizes a synchronous rectification topology which can provide a load current capability up to 2.2A as well as a practical solution for maximising the efficiency of the power supply circuit. It also has a full complement of features, including programmable current limit, both voltage feedback and remote sense, POR (power on reset) and adjustable soft start.

Working Principle

NCV2574DW-ADJR2G utilizes a synchronous rectification technique, which is sometimes called a “fixed frequency current mode” or “constant frequency voltage mode” topology. This topology is composed of two main stages, the PWM stage and the synchronous rectifier stage. The PWM stage uses a ramp voltage to create a pulse-width modulation signal as the control signal for the synchronous rectifier stage. The synchronous rectifier stage is composed of two switches; the upper switch is an NMOS transistor and the lower switch is a PMOS transistor. The NMOS transistor is commanded by the PWM output, while the PMOS transistor is commanded by an adjustable control voltage derived from the ON/OFF pin on the chip.

In operation, the PWM output is high, the NMOS transistor In this way, the output voltage can be regulated by controlling the duty cycle of the PWM signal as well as the output voltage of the ON/OFF pin. This topology can provide much higher efficiency than traditional linear regulators, and has the added benefit of being able to work with input voltage range far exceeding the output voltage range.

The input voltage and output current of NCV2574DW-ADJR2G is fully protected, including protection against inrush current, short-circuit protection (SCP), pulse-by-pulse current limiting and thermal shutdown. This all makes this device an ideal choice for switching regulator applications.
