NCV6323DMTAAWTBG, an integrated non-synchronous buck controller, is part of ON Semiconductor’s resonant mode control switching regulator portfolio. It has been designed to reduce the external component size, reduce the external component count, and enable the use of low ESR output capacitors. The controller is housed in a thermally enhanced WLCSP (CSP) package.
The NCV6323DMTAAWTBG is a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller with one or two outputs (adjustable/fixed voltage and power range). It employs a low-side N-channel MOSFET, input voltage range of 4.5V to 100V, current mode control, and an adjustable output voltage range of 0.45V to 3V (adjustable) while enabling excellent efficiency. The switch frequency is adjustable or can be synchronized externally. Other features of the controller include pulse skipping, dip&sag limitation, over-voltage protection and soft-start/stop. This integrated buck controller is suitable for various applications including point-of-load, telecom and server applications.
NCV6323DMTAAWTBG - Application Field
The NCV6323DMTAAWTBG is designed for high performance applications such as DC-DC variable voltage and power converters, DC-DC switch mode power supplies, resonant and other topology-based power supplies, battery chargers and other power delivery applications. This controller is ideal for use in communication, computing and consumer electronic products that require higher power needs at lower power levels and multiple power outputs. This controller is also useful for consumer products such as wireless charging, mobile phones, laptops, tablets and consumer/IoT products that require a compact, low-power power-on solution.
Working Principle
The NCV6323DMTAAWTBG operates in pulse width modulation (PWM) mode with a duty cycle that can be adjusted depending on the output voltage. The integrated current-mode modulator regulates the output voltage by varying the duty cycle of the switch. The modulator is designed to maintain the output voltage at constant levels under load conditions. The feedback block uses an external sensing resistor to sense the output voltage.
The controller can also be synchronized externally with an external clock signal. This feature allows the switching frequency of the device to be adjusted depending on the load requirement. The controller also has protection features like phase lock loop (PLL), over-voltage protection, dip & sag limitation, and soft start & stop for uninterrupted operations.
The controller is provided in a very small form factor of 0.5mm x 0.3mm, making it well suited for space-constrained designs. The device also supports thermal sensing, allowing the user to get real-time thermal measurements and help in selecting the right heatsink size. The NCV6323DMTAAWTBG is available with an operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.
