NJM3524D series of discrete, form-fit-function, domain-targeted switch controllers from NJR are ideal for voltage regulators, DC-DC Buck converter and other power-supply applications. It provides wide range of startup, shutdown, synchronization and control functions, as well as fault and bias detection and protection. Features of NJM3524D include operating voltage range of 3.3V to 19V, -40℃ to 85℃ operating temperature range, 180KHz switching frequency, 0.2A drive current and low on-resistance (41Ω). This particular controller family is suitable for medium to high power applications.

Working Principle

NJM3524D is a Buck-Boost-Sleep switch controller. It collects power supply and other control signals for two separate PWM control systems to control the output voltage. It uses a series of logic gates to implement a synchronous power management system. The input signals of NJM3524D consist of a power supply voltage, feedback voltage, and external control inputs belonging to two individual power stages. An important feature is the presence of two comparators, one associated with each of the two power stages. These detect input voltage changes and activate the appropriate control methods for the corresponding stage.

In shutdown mode, NJM3524D provides control logic to the mode control signal based on the power supply voltage and the external shutdown control signal. When the power supply signal is set to “high,” the mode signal is pulled down to “low” and the controller enters “sleep” mode. Furthermore, NJM3524D also contains an integrated high-side-MOSFET driver and synchronous rectifier drive circuitry, providing additional flexibility. This particular controller family integrates synchronous rectifiers and a low-polarity fault input signal, which significantly reduces the number of supporting external components.
