Thyristors are a type of semiconductor devices with three electrodes that make up a switch or a rectifier. They have tremendous applications in industries, electronic and communication systems.NTVB200SCL is one of the devices that are comprised of Thyristors.

NTVB200SCL is a high performance Low Voltage, Single phase, High Current Transmission Line (HVTL) Surge Arrester with Thyristor Technology. It is also known as an Diverter type of Thyristor Surge Arrester which is highly effective thermal, electrical and mechanical protection for long line applications.

This arrester works in two modes of operation. In the first mode of operation, thyristors are triggered by the dV/dt across the thyristor usually when precipitating in cloud and other natural sources of lightning. This triggers the thyristor which then passes the surge current to the ground.

The second mode of operation is for longer duration returns and closely resembles the operation of a gas arrester. During this mode, the arc is stabilized in two stages called the Current Limiter stage and Variable Exponential Expulsion stage. The Current Limiter stage creates an arc limiting current, and in doing so creates an arc that splits and directs the energy into the variable exponential expulsion stage, which ensures reduced stored energy and safe downward energy expulsion.

The NTVB200SCL is designed for prevention and protection of primary and secondary circuits, Outdoor Distribution Boards with medium voltage/low voltage, Ring mains AC/DC, Distribution transformer, switch gear, equipment insulation and other structures in the circuit.

NTVB200SCL have the capability of sustaining extremely high surge currents. It can be tested with very large current impulse wave (8/20 microsecond waveform waveform) and shall not suffer any breakage. The arrester is designed to provide a highly stable performance over a wide range of temperature and humidity.

The NTVB200SCL is built to be a self-extinguishing, one piece construction. It has an inbuilt heat transfer mechanism using thermally conductive materials which disperse heat away from the arrester’s components, extending their life by reducing hot spots. The arrester also includes a special fire protection system which can quickly extinguish a fire without any risk of exploding.
