The NUC100RC1BN microcontroller – a new generation of microcontroller from the NUVOTON family – is designed to provide an effective yet cost-friendly solution for embedded application fields. This 8-bit microcontroller is based on the 80C51 core with a wide range of features, along with an identical instruction set for code compatibility; making it an ideal choice for embedded applications.
For most embedded applications, a flexible I/O is usually necessary. The NUC100RC1BN provides up to 20 I /O pins with a wide range of functions, such as UART, SPI and PWM; making it suitable for a variety of designs and needs. In addition, the NUC100RC1BN offers up to 32KB of program flash memory and 1KB of data flash memory, which makes it ideal for applications requiring large amounts of code or data storage. The microcontroller also comes with an integrated LCD controller that supports up to 16x2 or 20x4 LCD panels.
The NUC100RC1BN has two kinds of clock sources – the 12MHz external crystal oscillator or the on-chip RC oscillator. This versatile range of clock sources allows the NUC100RC1BN to easily adapt to different design requirements, such as low power application or systems with real-time timing constraints. With the support from the NUVOTON’s official development kits, application designers can also take advantage of both C language and assembly code development environment for quick time-to-market.
Apart from its strong I/O configuration, the NUC100RC1BN is also equipped with multiple on-chip peripheral interfaces. These include 8-channel 10-bit ADC, 2-channel 16-bit timer/counter (with dead-zone generator), 4-channel interrupt controller, I2C, UART and SPI interfaces. These interfaces can be used both for data exchange or peripheral device communication. With its broad range of on-chip peripherals and I /O ports, the NUC100RC1BN can easily support a variety of different embedded application.
In terms of power consumption, the NUC100RC1BN is a highly-specified processor and requires very low power to run. It requires only 12 / 14 cycle to execute one instruction, and its power consumption can be as low as a few microamps in the low-power sleep mode. This makes it an ideal processor for low power applications and battery-powered applications. Additionally, the NUC100RC1BN features a built-in POR that can provide overload protection.
The working principle of the NUC100RC1BN is no different from that of other microcontrollers.
