The NUC230SD2AE is a high performance single-chip 8-bit microcontroller built-in 3 channels A/D converter for fast input conversion and powerful 32-bit instruction set for powerful operations on data. It is developed by Nuvoton Technology Corporation, a leading manufacturer and provider of semiconductor solutions. The NUC230SD2AE is designed for general purpose embedded applications, such as automatic door control, digital electronic safes, temperature and light control systems, bio-instrumentation and metering.

The NUC230SD2AE is composed of an 8-bit RISC CPU core and a wide range of peripheral I/O modules. It has 8KB of program memory and 8KB of single bank data/SRAM. The CPU core can be executed in two modes, paged addressing, which provides access to a full 64K bytes of addressable space, and single chip addressing, which provides access to the 8KB memory on one bank of memory. It also includes I/O ports, interrupt controller, timing control, full-duplex UART, pulse width modulator, and other on-chip peripherals. The device is also equipped with 3 high-precision analog to digital converters with 8-bit resolution.

The NUC230SD2AE also features on-chip buss speed independent peripherals that can run at different frequencies. It provides a serial data transfer rate of up to 1M bytes per second and supports up to 4 external devices. It supports a variety of operating modes, such as low-power standby mode, automatic idle mode, power savings mode and power down mode.

The NUC230SD2AE also features an internal real-time clock/calendar counter with separate 64-bit timer for time-keeping activities. It also includes an on-chip watchdog timer, which can be used to trip an interrupt or reset the device whenever a problem occurs. An 8-bit programmable port is included to allow user-friendly connection to external devices.

In addition, the NUC230SD2AE also includes power management circuits, which can reduce the power consumption when the system is idle. It comes with a JTAG interface for debugging and library functions for easy development. Furthermore, the device supports multiple communications protocols including I2C, UART, COM, CAN, and SPI.

The working principle of the NUC230SD2AE is quite simple. It contains an 8-bit central processing unit (CPU) that executes instructions. When the system is in Idle mode, the clock speed is reduced to reduce power and current consumption. In Power savings mode, the clock speed is further reduced and some of the on-chip peripherals will be disabled. Lastly, in Power down mode, most of the on-chip peripherals are disabled and the clock is stopped, resulting in minimal power consumption.
