NX5P1000UKZ Application Field and Working Principle

The NX5P1000UKZ is a product from the Power Distribution Switches, Load Drivers family produced by NXP, used to provide power supply in different field applications. This application field covers portable and desktop PCs, home appliances and automotive applications.

Manufactured in a 2mm package with low voltage, it uses integration structure that has low profile, and low thermal resistance. Additionally, the product integrates series switching FETs with high current, eliminating the need for an external FET. This is also supported by a wide input/output voltage range, making it a suitable choice for many applications. In addition, the low RDS (on)resistance makes it an ideal solution for low voltage applications.

The working principle is simple. The device is designed such that current is supplied through the two enable terminals while the TXIN signal controls the ON/OFF switching of the device. When the EN signal is low, the pulling of the FET gate is blocked. On the other hand, when the TXIN signal is logic high the output is enabled and thus power is supplied.

The device includes dual MOSFETs, the bottom MOSFET is switched ON when the signal from TXIN is low and the top MOSFET is switched ON when the signal from TXIN is high. Additionally, the device includes a loop back circuit connected between the source and drain of the top FET ensuring a fast transition from ON to OFF state.

Apart from the fast switching speed, it is also noteworthy that this product includes short circuit protection. This is enabled by an internal sensing circuit that will detect any over current at the drain terminal and then switch off the device immediately. This makes this product suitable for applications where overcurrent protection is required.
