Overview

SCRs (silicon controlled rectifiers) are electronic components consisting of four layers of semiconductor material. When the SCR is forward biased, a low voltage/ current is applied across it, creating a gate current, which flows through the SCR’s gate-cathode junction. As this gate current increases, the current across the SCR increases as well, creating a forward bias across the SCR that activates it. Once the SCR is activated, the voltage/ current across the SCR will remain constant until the gate current is reduced.SCRs can be used in a number of applications including power control, motor control, and AC power switching. In power control applications, SCRs are used as switches to control the power output of a power source, such as a battery, photovoltaic panel, or generator. Additionally, SCRs can be used in motor control applications to control the speed or position of a motor.

NYC222STT1G application field and working principle

The NYC222STT1G SCR is a powerful static switching controller that is commonly used for DC motor speed, current and position control as well as for AC load switching. As a static switching controller, this device can be used for applications such as circuit-level control of re-starts and Over/Under Voltage and Current trip limiters. In addition, the NYC222STT1G can also be used for DC power control applications such as battery chargers. The NYC222STT1G employs a proprietary low power MOSFET structure, which makes it a highly efficient, low-power static switch. Additionally, the device features a wide operating temperature range, making it suitable for a variety of industrial, automotive, and residential applications. Due to its unique design, the NYC222STT1G SCR operates by an entirely different principle than traditional SCRs. Instead of relying on the gate-cathode current, the NYC222STT1G relies on a two-layer gate design to drive the SCR. The first layer is the control layer, which is connected to a voltage source and the second layer is the body layer, which is connected to a current source. When the voltage at the control layer reaches the trigger voltage of the SCR, the current flow through the body layer and the SCR is activated. The body layer then remains activated until the voltage on the control layer falls below the control voltage of the SCR. The main benefit of the NYC222STT1G is its low power consumption. With a typical current rating of 3A, the NYC222STT1G requires only a few milliwatts of power to activate, which makes it an ideal solution for applications that require low energy consumption. Furthermore, the device is able to operate with a very low gate drive voltage, making it suitable for operation in hostile environments, such as those with high temperature or high electromagnetic interference.

Conclusion

The NYC222STT1G is a powerful, low-power static switching controller that is well suited for a variety of industrial, automotive, and residential applications. Its two-layer gate design allows it to switch at extremely low power levels, making it ideal for applications that require low energy consumption. Additionally, its wide operating temperature range makes it suitable for hostile environments. The NYC222STT1G can be used for a variety of applications, including power control, motor control, and AC power switching.
