RFID Evaluation and Development Kits, Boards

Radio-frequency identification (RFID), an emerging technology, is an auto-identification method that utilize a communication protocol that can detect and identify tags located within a certain area. In order to address the issues that arise with manual RFID process, and promote the implementation of RFID systems, evaluation and development kits for RFID technologies have become increasingly popular. Two such kits are the OM5569/NT322EM evaluation and development kits for RFID.The OM5569/NT322EM evaluation and development kits for RFID are both created using the NXP MIFARE Classic chip conforming to the ISO14443 type A protocol. The OM5569 in particular can be beneficial for researchers looking to develop RFID solutions for vehicle control or payment solutions, as its low cost allows for it to be used in exploratory or educational works without cost concerns. The NT322EM is a much advanced version of the OM5569 and was developed in order to meet the needs of developers building more robust and high quality RFID solutions. It is also designed to be extremely flexible, allowing developers to customize the board and components to match the precise needs of their solution.The OM5569 allows for a maximum communication distance of one inch, while the NT322EM board is capable of a much greater range of communication distance. When it comes to the functionality of the boards, the OM5569 is a more basic evaluation and development kit of the two, and is designed to be used with devices connected to it over a USB connection. The OM5569 board runs off of a 12V DC power source and is able to operate at a frequency of 13.56 MHz.The OM5569’s microcontroller utilizes a 12-bit CPU and includes the ability to write data to the RFID tag as well as detect and identify the tag. The board has the ability to process eight data bytes with four bytes for each encoded block on the tag. The board is also able to detect both a tag with a modulation index and a low-coercivity field in order to determine whether or not it is the correct tag.The NT322EM evaluation and development kit allows for a communication distance of 8 meters and runs at the same communication frequency as the OM5569. It also utilizes the same microcontroller as the OM5569 but includes a superior algorithm that can better detect and identify tags deployed in high and low volume areas. The board is powered off of a 20v AC power source which is then toped off by a 30 dBm TX power of 1.5, 5 and 8 meters.The NT322EM board includes an LED display that shows the user their data as it is transmitted and a buzzer for audible feedback. It also has support for USB debug and programming functions, allowing for communication with various development tools. The board also has the ability to output both an RS232 and a TTL serial protocol for easy integration with other external components or systems.The resilient nature of the NT322EM sheilds it from high electrical noise and allows for a more consistent detection rate of RFID tags. This makes the shield particularly ideal for environments prone to high electrical interference such as industrial or medical settings. The NT322EM is also a highly reliable board and can be used in a variety of situations such as access control, point of sale systems, and many others where increased reliability is needed.In conclusion, the OM5569/NT322EM evaluation and development kits are essential tools when it comes to developing high-quality RFID solutions. The OM5569 board is a great basic entry level board that can be used for educational or exploratory purposes, while the NT322EM is a more powerful board that can be used in implementations requiring increased reliability and performance.
