OM7960

The OM7960 evaluation board is an 802.15.4 single-mode, single-channel solution developed by Octavo Systems to enable designers to quickly test and evaluate Wi-Fi-based products and protocols.

The OM7960 evaluation board is a complete and compact development platform capable of providing reference design and evaluation components for a wide range of applications from low-power networking to very high- contention ISM-band applications. The board includes 2 microcontrollers (STM32F429 on the main board, STM32F746 on the auxiliary board) and external peripherals like a NFC/RFID reader, various sensors and a Wi-Fi-enabled LoRa module.

The evaluation board also provides an Arduino form-factor with an embedded ATmega32U4 microcontroller, a full-bridge MOSFET driver, a current sense for load switching, and a USB-to-UART bridge.

The OM7960 evaluation board provides an ideal platform for wireless networking applications that require scalability and low power consumption. Its features include RF-independent frame processing, ad-hoc networking, enhanced transceiver performance, low-power WiFi, low-power MCU support, optimized RF power consumption, hardware and software configurability, and improved energy harvesting. It also supports the most common 802.15.4 network topologies, including star, ring, mesh, and meshed/star, and allows a flexible combination of protocol and PHY layers.

The OM7960 evaluation board runs on the Octavo OSSystems platform based on the open source Modular IoT System (MIS) API. The MIS API simplifies the development of wireless connection, including the transmission and reception of data. The MIS API provides enhanced security, with easy support for encrypted message transmission and reception, and 802.15.4 protocols. The MIS API enables applications to easily control individual slave nodes, handle exceptions, and provide fault-tolerant operation.

The OM7960 evaluation board also provides an enhanced transceiver performance, with support for a single-channel and single-mode Wi-Fi radio. The single-channel operation minimizes interference and power consumption, while the integrated Wi-Fi subsystem allows communication with wireless point-to-point and point-to-multipoint networks over distances of up to 10 m.

The board also supports low-power processing in the form of an integrated MCU and power management. The board\'s low-power Wi-Fi subsystem contains a Wi-Fi transceiver and an integrated power amplifier and switch for powering the antenna. This combination of features along with the board\'s integrated sensors, high-gain antenna, and the Modular IoT System (MIS) API allow for the development of advanced 802.15.4-based wireless networking applications with extended range and long battery life.
