OPA337EA/250 Application Field and Working Principle

OPA337EA/250 is an instrumentation amplifier, buffers and operational amplifiers (Op Amp) designed to provide a precision, floatless, variable gain and low noise amplification. It is suitable for many instrumentation, process control, industrial automation, industrial sensor and vibration measurement applications.

OPA337EA/250 Design and Specifications

OPA337EA/250 is an advanced monolithic audio processor developed for advanced instrumentation and control applications. It offers precision gain and low noise operation in a single, low cost package. It features two low power operational amplifiers, one buffer amplifier and one gain select amplifier sharing a common power supply. It is designed to provide rail-to-rail input and output operation and can operate with supply voltages ranging from 2.7 to 5.5V.

The maximum output current of this amplifier is 7mA, while the typical output drive current is 6.8mA. It features a wide bandwidth of 5MHz and total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 0.0006%. The input terminal is fully protected from overload by a 1pF capacitor and the device is immune to harmonic distortion caused by capacitively coupled signals up to a frequency of 10kHz.

The amplifier provides a gain select option with four gain settings (1, 10, 20 and 30dB) that allow users to easily switch between different gain levels. These selectable gains provide great flexibility for applications involving multiple gain steps, such as vibration measurement, audio signal processing and instrumentation systems.

Working Principle of OPA337EA/250

OPA337EA/250 works on a differential amplifier structure with a gain stage. The input signals are applied at the differential input terminals. These signals are then amplified by the gain stage, producing differential output signals. The gain select amplifier is then used to control the overall gain of the amplifier by switching between different gain settings.

The output of the gain stage is then fed to the output buffer, which provides rail-to-rail output swing. The output buffer also provides an output voltage level that is independent of the load. This feature enables the amplifier to drive loads with a wide range of output capacitance values without compromising the output voltage level.

In addition, the OPA337EA/250 features a power-on reset circuit which ensures that the amplifier is in a known state at power-on. This reset circuit ensures that the gain select amplifier is set to the same gain after each power cycle.
