When enabled, the IGBT pair functions as a bidirectional switch, allowing current flow between the load and control sides. When disabled, the IGBT pair opens, blocking all current flow.

The opto-coupler is connected to the IGBT pair, and when the load voltage is higher than the control voltage, the opto-coupler causes the IGBTs to become saturated and close, blocking the current.
