The P1021-MDS-PB evaluation board is designed to explore the application field and working principle of the Freescale Power Architecture P1021 microprocessor. The board is specifically targeted to digital signal processing (DSP) and embedded microcontroller (MCU) industries. The P1021-MDS-PB features the P1021 microprocessor which is a highly integrated Power Architecture microcontroller designed for embedded applications. The P1021 microcontroller features 1.2 GHz 128 bit e500 core, 2KB L1 instruction cache and 2KB L1 data cache, and 256KB of on-chip L2 cache. The P1021-MDS-PB includes multiple peripherals, interfaces and memories, which allow customers to explore various application fields and evaluate the performance of their design.

The P1021-MDS-PB is well suited for both DSP and MCU applications. The P1021 microcontroller features a variety of peripherals and dedicated DSP blocks specifically designed for DSP applications. The processor is capable of executing demanding signal processing algorithms at high speed while maintaining low power consumption. The on-board switchable memory supports Code Storage, Non-volatile configuration storage and FPGA programming.

The on-board debug interface helps customers explore the application area during the development stage. It is also possible to interface external JTAG interface to the debug unit. The onboard SDP connector facilitates the use of various hardware and software development tools. In addition, there is an optional solid-state drive (SSD) for storing the program and data. The P1021-MDS-PB includes an on-board High-Speed Serial Peripheral Interface (HSPI) that enables rapid data transfer between devices on the board. The board is also equipped with dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, two CAN ports, eight GPIO pins for sensors and general purpose applications, and two analog-to-digital converter (ADC) channels.
