A P4KE350C, also known as a low capacitance TVS diode, is a semiconductor device that is used to protect electronic components from high-voltage transients. As a TVS (transient voltage suppressor) diode, the P4KE350C is designed to short spike voltages within nanoseconds and remain conductive until the voltage dissipates. In order to detect breach of such transients, it has a very sensitive trigger level. Along with a low capacitance, it helps to protect especially high-speed communication channels with data rates higher than 1 Gbps.
A P4KE350C consists of a p-n junction diode with a glass body, which helps to divert harmful surge currents away from the protected circuitry. The main purpose of these diodes is to provide strong power protection of Key components in your circuit by clamping down any transient overvoltages.
The transient voltage suppression characteristic of the P4KE350C is made up of four parts: a diode or transistor, a clamping voltage regulator, a common mode filter, and a high-performance bias device. The diode or transistor is the switch that diverts an increase in voltage from entering the device. A clamping voltage regulator then stabilizes the voltage level, preventing it from rising above a predetermined mark. The common mode filter helps remove common line noise, while the high-performance bias device helps maintain a steady voltage level.
Uses of the P4KE350C diode includes protecting Active High Definition interfaces such as HDMI and Display Port, protecting against hot plug surges in electronic equipment, protecting from electromagnetic interference (EMI) such as lightning, and protecting USB and Firewire connections from overvoltage transients.
