The P4SMA250C is an advanced TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diode that is designed to protect sensitive devices from electrical overstress conditions or electrostatic discharge (ESD). It is designed to have a high surge rating and a low clamping voltage that help to keep the voltage within a safe range. The P4SMA250C is used in a variety of applications such as industrial control equipment, automotive systems, medical equipment, consumer electronics, computers, and telecommunication.The P4SMA250C has a reverse leakage current rating of less than 1µA at 25V, a maximum operating junction temperature of 125°C, and a maximum surge voltage rating of 250V. It is available in an industry standard SMA package. The device is both RoHS compliant and UL recognised. The P4SMA250C utilizes a reversebiased P-N junction to reduce excessive voltage to an appropriate level during an overstress conditions. The junction responds to surges by increasing the current, allowing the device to absorb the energy. This increases the conduction times and reduces the peak voltage. During normal operation, the voltage is kept below the surge voltage by the P4SMA250C. When a surge condition occurs, the P4SMA250C will clamp the voltage to its specified 300V peak.The P4SMA250C also provides transient protection against severe ESD pulses. In the event that an unpowered device is subjected to an ESD voltage, the P4SMA250C will absorb the excess voltage and reduce the peak voltage. The device will then gradually release the voltage to prevent malfunction of the protected circuit. In order to limit EMI/RFI interference, the P4SMA250C should be placed as close to the protected device as possible. The length of a typical ESD protection circuit should be kept as short as possible to prevent the circuit from acting like an antenna.
