Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) are voltage-clamping devices that provide surge protection solutions. The P4SMA7.5CAHE3/61 is a unidirectional TVS series specially designed to protect signaling lines from high surge voltages, as well as overvoltage transients caused by external system events. This series is compliant with IEC 61000-4-5 8/20μs pulses and is available in a wide range of voltage levels from 5.0 V up to 24 V.

P4SMA7.5CAHE3/61 Application Fields

The P4SMA7.5CAHE3/61 series is designed to protect sensitive equipment from overvoltage transients mainly caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD) and inductive switching. It provides a low-capacitance protection solution for high-speed signal lines in automotive systems, medical and industrial electronics, consumer electronics and telecom/datacom applications. It is also suitable for applications with high functionality requirements, such as fast risetime (<30ps) in low capacitance (<5pF) designs.

P4SMA7.5CAHE3/61 Working Principle

When an overvoltage transient strikes, the TVS series brings its own power to bear on and immediately changes its low DC current conduction to a non-linear AC mode. This creates an electronic current clamp which safely absorbs and mitigates the excessive surge energy. The series is capable of controlling extremely high-energy pulses with excellent time characteristics, while providing reliable protection for sensitive circuits and components.

When an incident occurs, the P4SMA7.5CAHE3/61 TVS series start to conduct the surge current away from the protected circuit(s). The breakdown voltage can reach from 6.5 to 8.0 Volts, depending on the model line. After the transient is over, the TVS series immediately restore its low DC current conduction. Therefore, the device does not degrade or age with time, and there is no need to replace it.

These devices are designed to provide a high level of protection from ESD and inductive switching events. They also offer robustness against high-energy impulsive surges, while maintaining a low capacitance to ensure fast signal edge rates and low insertion loss. The devices feature an excellent clamping capability, low leakage current, and fast response time.

The P4SMA7.5CAHE3/61 series provides excellent surge protection for a range of 5.0 V to 24 V applications, such as powerline protection, consumer electronics, automotive, telecom/datacom, medical and industrial electronics. It ensures superior protection from high-energy transients without sacrificing system performance.
