Working Principle

The P6KE350A is a zener diode which, when the input is exposed to high-energy, high-voltage current spikes it will immediately break down and start clipping the voltage waveform, which limits the peak voltage to a safe level. The diode is able to dissipate 800 W of peak power, allowing it to protect larger circuits. The surge current is clamped at the zener’s breakdown voltage, which then passes through the zener diode in a controlled manner.

The TVS diode employs a specially designed electrode structure to reduce the overload and avalanche voltages; this increases the energy absorption characteristics. As a result, the P6KE350A is able to offer an energy absorption capability which is four times better than that of ordinary diode. Also due to its energy absorption capability, TVS diodes offer more flexibility in their application.
