TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) diodes are nonlinear current-limiting components which protect electronic components from high-voltage transients. Among different TVS diodes, the PACDN044TR (hereafter referred to as PACDN) is a unidirectional triple rail device designed to protect against electrostatic discharge (ESD) and other transient voltage events. This paper will discuss the application field and working principle of the PACDN.
The PACDN is designed to protect devices operating on a flow-control bus from ESD. This flow-control bus is used to enable and control the operation of automated systems and has to be reliable. The PACDN offers an optimal solution for protecting the system from ESD related damage. It is also suitable for protecting military and commercial equipment from ESD. Furthermore, the PACDN can also be used to protect against other transients and inductive switching spikes. In fact, it is capable of handling up to +30kV ESD and +5kA transients.

When voltage transient surges arrive, the diode pairs provide the necessary path for the surge current and then discharge it from the system. However, when a voltage transient occurs, there is a delay in the current surge to pass through the diode pairs which further protects the system by limiting the current flow. Additionally, the size of the current surge is also limited by the built-in ESD protection.
The PACDN is also equipped with an ESD circuit which helps limit the size of the current surges. The ESD circuit has a built-in self-regulating system which makes sure that the current surge is kept within the safe operating limits. Additionally, the built-in ESD protection also helps to prevent excessive power dissipation and ensures that the system is well protected. Moreover, the DCS provides further protection from ESD-related transient events.
