PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Regulators is a category of power management integrated circuits (PMIC) that are used to regulate the output voltage from an input voltage through a switching regulator architecture. The PAM2307BECADJR is a general purpose DC/DC switching regulator from Texas Instruments. It is an adjustable step-down switching regulator that utilizes a voltage-mode control for excellent line and load transient responses.Applications

The PAM2307BECADJR offers a wide input voltage range of 6.5V to 23V and adjustable output voltage of 0.8V to 18V. It has a wide 10mV to 85mV adjustable feedback voltage and requires an external voltage divider for Vout adjustment. The PAM2307BECADJR provides up to 2A maximum output current and operates in either PWM or pulse-skipping mode. It also features low ESR output ceramic capacitors, over-current protection and enable pin for power sequence control.Working Principle
The operating principle of the PAM2307BECADJR is based on a voltage-mode architecture. The device starts in PWM mode and automatically provides pulse-skipping mode to reduce input power when in light loads. It employs an external voltage divider to sense the output voltage and adjust the drive strength to the power switch in order to maintain the output voltage.To ensure proper operation, the external loop components need to be properly selected and compensated. A pair of resistors form a potential divider network to adjust the output voltage. The feedback voltage is monitored on the FB pin, and the PAM2307BECADJR tracks this voltage with a precision internal reference. A TL431 is also employed to provide a current limit signal to the device.The PAM2307BECADJR also features a low frequency oscillator to generate the switching frequency and a shutdown pin for power sequencing control. When the frequency or amplitude of the signal exceeds the limit specified in the device\'s data sheet, the device may enter quasi-pulse-skipping mode to protect itself from damage.
