The PCA9532D,118 is an LED driver that belongs to a family of digital devices specifically designed to provide pulse width modulation (PWM), digital rectification and multi-channel dimming control capability. It is part of a series of Pulse Width Modulator and LED driver integrated circuits (IC) from NXP Semiconductor (formerly called Philips Semiconductor). These devices are useful when controlling multiple LEDs in a project that requires dimming as well as digital converters of PWM signals. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is a technique used to vary the effective power delivered to a load by switching an output signal from the “on” state to the “off” state at a constant frequency, but with varying duty cycle. In practice, the average power delivered to the load is proportional to the duty cycle of the output signal. The PCA9532D,118 offers an easy-to-use functional solution for LED light intensity control as it provides a variety of LED dimming features.This device features two independent channels of constant frequency, variable duty cycle independent PWM outputs, each of which can be used to drive up to four LEDs in a common anode configuration. The device has a wide PWM frequency range of 8 kHz to 8 MHz and a switching frequency that can be accurate to ±3%. It also has a wide dimming ratio of 300:1 with an adjustable dimming current from 0.3 to 18mA per channel. Furthermore, the IC has an adjustable startup dimming current that is separately controlled for each channel, enabling vibrant, stable light intensity for each of the LEDs in the array. PCA9532D,118 also features a redundancy function that can be used when one channel of the IC is damaged or disabled. The second channel can be used to drive four of the LEDs in the array allowing the remaining LEDs to be operated without a glitch.In addition, the PCA9532D,118 also provides a bridge connection interface, which can be used to simultaneously regulate multiple LED drivers in PARALLEL connection to achieve uniform dimming of multiple LED Strings. It has a wide operating temperature range of -40° to 125° C and a wide power supply range of 2.5V to 5.5V. The device integrates five protection functions including thermal shutdown, over temperature protection, short circuit protection, overcurrent protection, and undervoltage protection. The PCA9532D,118 has various application fields in the LED industry such as TV monitors, mobile phones, laptops and digital devices, automotive lighting systems, medical lighting systems, and outdoor signage and decorative lighting systems. It can also be used in any system with the desired conditions for LED illumination.
