The PCA9535PW is a I/O Expander that connects to an integrated circuit (IC) chip and is designed to help optimize the use of port I/O pins in application fields with limited pin availability and/or power budget. This device increases the number and functionality of available I/O channels while reducing the cost, power, and complexity of the system. The PCA9535PW provides 8 expanded bidirectional I/O lines and 8 pulse width modulation (PWM) style outputs to further simplify system complexity and improve design flexibility.

The PCA9535PW helps address the following challenges of many application fields. When there are limited I/O pins and/or a limited power budget, use of the device can provide an additional 8 bidirectional I/O lines and 8 pulse width modulation (PWM) style outputs. These outputs can easily be cascaded with other PCA9535PW devices, driving up to 64 system I/O and 16 programmable PWM outputs. In applications where there is limited available physical space, a single device, such as the PCA9535PW, can replace multiple I/O components, helping to reduce board area, cost, and expectations. The device can also be used to help reduce system complexity and/or reduce power requirements in battery-operated applications.

The PCA9535PW features a low power mode and fast power-on sequence (<500 ns) in order to reduce system power consumption. This device also includes a write protection feature, allowing an integrated/overlapped memory write operation to be addressed and stored without outside interference. The device is also always ready, allowing the host to use the device without the need of any additional resetting or re-initializing.
