PCA9535BS1,118 is an interface-I/O expander, a mixed signal device. It is a 8-bit I/O expander for the two-line bidirectional bus (I2C-bus). This I2C-bus 16-bit I/O expander provides general-purpose remote I/O expansion for most microcontroller families. When the PCA9535BS1,118 receives data on its I2C-bus, it copes with the data according to the instruction set. The instruction set provides the user to control the internal registers of the device which include configuration, direction and polarity registers. It has 3-state type output stages which allow either the active low or active high outputs. It has two general purpose input/output (GPIO) port registers, two input port registers, two output port registers and two polarity inversion registers.The input port and output port registers of the PCA9535BS1,118 are configured via the I2C-bus. When the device is configured to be in the input mode, the state of the pins is determined by the status of the input port register. When the device is configured to be in the output mode, the state of the pins is determined by the status of the output port register. In the polarity inversion register, setting a bit in the register conditions the corresponding output port register bit to be inverted before being applied to the output pin.For the interrupt output functionality of the PCA9535BS1,118, when an input port pin is configured as an interrupt output pin, the AND Operations result of the polarity and input port register is used to generate an interrupt output signal.Conclusion
