PCA9555BSHP is a type of interface I/O expanders, an integrated dual I/O controller. Its application field includes consumer, industrial and automotive solutions. It enables a simple method to extend the number of input or output interfaces in any system. It is cost-effective and makes it easier for the system to control, receive and generate multiple signals in a variety of protocols.
This interface I/O expander supports two kinds of functions, I2C and GPIO. The I2C function supports master-slave mode and multi-master mode, supports I2C fast mode, fast mode plus, high-speed mode and also supports wake-up function. The GPIO function supports maximum 32-bit Independent GPIO output and 32-bit Independent GPIO input, which could be flexibly configured and operates in active-low or active-high.
The PCA9555BSHP interface I/O expander has an I2C bus programmable address and logic level, which makes it suitable for various applications. There should be an external resistor reflow to determine the logic level. For the logic levels of outputs, the I/O expander provides a switchable current source for protection against accidental shorts of outputs. The external pull-ups and resistors for I2C bus signals are used to guarantee the bus stability in case of harsh environment.
In addition, the PCA9555BSHP includes an internal reset circuit, so that the I/O settings can be reset by a single pin. The internal EEPROM inside can store the last I/O settings and will restore settings after reset. The input Schmitt logic stage also enhances the noise immunity. Moreover, to reduce the periodic EMI radiation, a pulse width modulation (PWM) output function is offered. Meanwhile, a wide operating voltage range of 2.3V to 5.5V provides a better flexibility in the system design.
