Working Principle

The PCAL6416AEVJ consists of 8 expandable units; each unit being able to contain up to 16 I/O pins, with the ability to be configured as inputs or outputs. The units are connected by the I2C bus and communicate with the microcontroller or processor. The I2C bus allows up to 256 devices to be connected on one port.

The PCAL6416 includes 256 bytes of EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable memory) which can be used to store data and parameters. This provides the ability to customize each PCAL6416AEVJ for a particular application.
