Zener diodes are the most commonly used type of semiconductor diode, having two electrodes an anode and a cathode. Zener diodes are able to carry out two types of operations – they can be used as rectifiers, as well as producing an accurate amount of reverse breakdown voltage - the well-known Zener breakdown voltage. The most common types of Zener diode are single Zener diodes, which are divided into three functions: PDZ3.0BGWJ, 3RD10BGWJ and 3RD20BGWJ. Each of these types has different characteristics and properties.

PDZ3.0BGWJ is a single Zener diode with a maximum Zener voltage of 3.0 Volts. It has a maximum reverse leakage current of 0.25 milliamperes and a maximum reverse power dissipation of 500 milliwatts. This type of diode is designed for general purpose applications, where precise current regulation and high breakdown voltage is required. It is an appropriate choice for both low voltage and medium voltage applications.

The working principle of PDZ3.0BGWJ is quite simple. The Zener breakdown voltage is determined by the electrical field that is created between the p-type and n-type semiconductor layers of the diode. When a voltage greater than the Zener breakdown voltage is applied, a Zener breakdown occurs between the p-type and n-type semiconductor layers, resulting in additional current flowing through the diode. This current flows in the reverse direction and is constant, as it is limited by the Zener breakdown voltage.

The PDZ3.0BGWJ Zener diodes are generally used for voltage regulation, where it is necessary to maintain a steady output voltage over a varying load.
