TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diodes are bipolar semiconductor devices designed to protect sensitive circuits against excessive transients. The transients can be in both positive or negative polarity and rise times range from nanoseconds to hundreds of microseconds in duration. The maximum transient voltage and peak pulse current rating of the selected TVS diode should be greater than the expected peak transient voltage and pulse current.

The PGSMAJ11CA M2G is particularly suitable for harsh environments applications in automotive, industrial equipment, consumer electronics, smart grid, communications/networking, medical device and power applications. It can effectively suppress transient voltage up to 6.5kV and can handle pulse currents up to 80A. The PGSMAJ11CA M2G is also available with COMSOL (Common Mode Surge Overload) multi-layered protection technology to offer additional surge protection.

The PGSMAJ11CA M2G is a bidirectional diode consisting of two components, namely a Plateau Suppressor and a Slope Suppressor. The Plateau Suppressor has an internal P-N junction, which is triggered by a voltage exceeding a certain level, and the Slope Suppressor is activated by energy from the lightening surge. Once the initial surge energy is absorbed, the plateau suppressor will provide a gradual recovery back to its pre-surge voltage, thereby protecting the sensitive components from further damage.

The PGSMAJ11CA M2G has a built-in protection diode with an internal circuit that is designed to prevent the reverse voltage from reaching the components connected to the TVS diode. When the electric field across the diode reaches a certain strength, the diode will turn on and redirect the current to ground, protecting the components from transientvoltage spikes. The PGSMAJ11CA M2G also has a built-in Avalanche Voltage Limiter (AVL) designed to provide superior surge protection.
