In aerospace applications, the unit is often used in power systems that require enhanced isolation levels and fault protection.Working PrincipleThe PI3301-21-LGIZ makes use of a buck switching topology, a form of switching converter. This buck topology uses a single transistor as a switch, along with a magnetising inductor and a couple of capacitors and a flyback transformer. As a result, it is able to provide isolation from the input voltage and reduce the size of the switching circuit, which helps to increase efficiency.The switching transistor cycles on and off to create a pulse width modulation of the input voltage. This pulse width modulation is controlled by a feedback circuit which regulates the output voltage. It is based on the variation of the voltage across the inductor , which then results in the output voltage having a nearly constant magnitude.The output can be further set according to the user’s preference and can either be set for constant voltage or constant current operation. The PI3301-21-LGIZ is also capable of operating in discontinuous conduction mode, where the output current is detected to decrease to zero.
