The PI5C32X384BE is a high-speed, low-power, LVCMOS-compatible signal switch/multiplexer/decoder ideal for a variety of communications, computing, industrial and consumer applications. It is part of Texas Instruments\' Cascode Logic family, a family of sophisticated, low-skew signal-switching devices that can provide 18 to 53 Gb/s performance. It includes a selectable 3-to-8 mux/demux, a 3-to-1 multiplexer/demultiplexer, programmable logic, and an integrated clock/data recovery circuit.

The PI5C32X384BE features a selectable 3-to-8 mux/demux with forward- and reverse-channel functionality, allowing the user to switch an 8-b data stream between the transmitter and the receiver. Its FIFO buffer eliminates data buffering delays, improving performance and allowing for variable data rate applications. Its programmable logic block and clock/data recover can be used to build additional functions within the data path. Additionally, the device\'s low-skew, balanced signals allow for high-speed transmission on multiple lanes, and its oscillator feature enables low jitter and excellent signal integrity in mixed-signal applications.

The PI5C32X384BE works by multiplexing data from three to eight parallel data channels at a time, and using the two forward channels (the 8-bit and 9-bit data inputs) to drive the data stream, while the reverse channel is used to receive the streamed data. The data is then sent to the selectable 3-to-1 multiplexer/demultiplexer which provides data to the programmable logic block. The programmable logic is then used to build additional functions such as logic operations, device synchronization and serialization, with the integrated clock/data recovery circuit enabling clock data recovery from the input serial stream.

This device can be used for a variety of applications, including 4K/8K UHD video, Ethernet links, DisplayPort, Serial RapidIO links and Ethernet over LR optical modules.
