Clock signals are an essential part of any digital circuit. Without these pulses running at the correct frequency, devices like microprocessors, programmable devices and analog-to-digital converters cannot operate. To ensure the best accuracy and performance, clock signals need to be terminated, buffered and distributed throughout the system. PL123-02NGC is one such device, a highly-integrated, low-skew, high-frequency clock buffer and driver.
The PL123-02NGC combines a precision voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) and a PLL clock distribution integrated circuit (IC). The VCXO circuit provides the required working frequency, while the PLL IC’s output is divided and buffered to the required frequency and output levels. The device is designed for applications such as digital video, data communications, consumer and industrial applications.
The PL123-02NGC is a low-skew, high-frequency CMOS clock buffer and driver, designed to provide low-cost, low-jitter clock distribution. It can provide buffering to any input on the reference oscillator (VCXO) up to 150 MHz and output buffering up to 70 MHz. The device is also capable of accepting non-squarewave inputs, such as a sine wave, with a frequency tolerance of 0.2%.
The high-speed buffer/driver output has rail-to-rail out swings and low propagation delay and provides 0.1% clock accuracy. A single reference input voltage is used to supply the VCXO, and the PLL IC uses this to generate the pin-programmable clock outputs. The device also features smart-start control, allowing it to remain powered-up through a series of power cycles, aiding hot swapping of components in an application.
The PL123-02NGC features an on-chip temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) for ensuring accurate and reliable operation over temperature. The adjustment of frequency over temperature can also be monitored via the reference input. The device includes an advanced power management system, providing low power consumption in both idle and active modes.
