Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT) are an important component of surge protection devices. They are used to protect electrical circuits from damage due to high voltage transients, such as lightning strikes. The PMT3 (310)07504 is a GDT specifically designed for medium voltage applications, providing high speed transient absorption and excellent protective performance.
The PMT3 (310)07504 is a three-pole gas discharge tube arrester that can be connected in series with an electrical system or equipment in order to protect it from transient over-voltages. The GDT consists of two electrodes separated by a dielectric i.e. a gas filled cavity, made of quartz to withstand high-intensity transients. In normal operating conditions, the arrester has high insulation resistance. However, when a transient voltage is applied, the gas filled cavity is ionized and, due to the velocity of the incoming surge, practically turns into a conductor. This conductive path maintains the surge voltage at a safe level and diverts it away from sensitive parts of the system.
The PMT3 (310)07504 arrester has built-in components such as a voltage dependent resistor, to help control the rate of current rise and to minimize the effects of inductive currents, and a capacitor, that helps to reduce the RFI emission due to the arc discharge. In addition, these arresters use ZnO (zinc oxide) gas as its sole discharge material, a material known for its low let-through energy levels.
The PMT3 (310)07504 Gas Discharge Tube Arresters are designed to provide high level protection for medium voltage electronic systems, from direct lightning strikes or induced transients, up to 100kA. The voltage rating of these arresters ranges from 17.4 kV to 38.3kV and they have a sine shaped impulse current capacity of up to 100kA. The PMT3 (310)07504 arresters have a high frequency comparison rating which makes them ideal for harmonic rich environments.
The PMT3 (310)07504 are designed to protect electrical equipment in environments that may be subject to transient over-voltages from lightning or from other severe transients.
