Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT) are protection devices used to shield electronic circuits from the damaging effects of transient voltage spikes. They are commonly known as surge arresters, transient voltage suppressors, or lightning arresters. PMT6250MS is a gas discharge tube arrester developed by Shenzhen PMT Technology Co. Ltd. It is specially designed for the protection of devices from lightning surges and other transient, high-voltage, and high-current pulses.PMT6250MS is an internally-sheltered GDT arrester, with a wide operating voltage range of 500V to 6.2kV (peak value). It features a short rising and decaying time, low leakage current, low capacity, high surge current capacity, and high temperature and humidity insulation performance. The arrester also has an ambient temperature range from -25 to 85 °C, with a rated impulse discharge voltage of 6.2 kV (peak value).The working principle of the PMT6250MS is based on the Thunder Overvoltage Discharge Theorem. It works by using the environmental pressure to control the transfer of electrical charge from the environment to the discharge circuit. The arrester consists of an enclosed cathode filled with a noble gas and an anode connected to the line side energy source. When a transient voltage spike reaches the arrester, it induces a short in the anode-cathode gap across the arrester, causing the noble gas molecules to ionize. The ionized gas molecules then form an electrical bridge between the anode and cathode, allowing the surge current to pass through the arrester and safely discharge to earth. Once the voltage has been discharged, the ionized gas molecules recombine, re-establishing the anode-cathode gap once again.PMT6250MS is used primarily in the electrical and energy industries to protect Wind Turbines, Surge Protective Devices, Control Systems, Isolators, Transformers, Breakers, and Network Equipment from lightning induced surge and other transient overvoltage conditions.
