Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT)
PMT6350MS is a gas discharge tube arrester (GDT) based surge packaging that can be used in a wide range of circuits and applications. The main purpose of GDTs is to protect electrical systems from overvoltage caused by lightning, electro-static discharge, power system switching overvoltage or other overvoltages. The PMT6350MS is a highly reliable surge packaging with multiple voltage ranges, high surge current and very low voltage drop.
Application Field

Working Principle
The PMT6350MS is a dry type gas discharge tube that is filled with a specific gas under pressure. When the surge voltage reaches the breakdown voltage of the gas, the gas ionizes and dissipates the surge current. The PMT6350MS also has a ceramic capacitor and a varistor between the surge terminals that helps limit the voltage surge. The ceramic capacitor absorbs the high-frequency energy and reduces the surge voltage while the varistor handles the larger current-handling capacity of the surge.
When the high-voltage surge is mitigated, a spark-gap breaker rapidly breaks the circuit to prevent further overvoltage and to limit the surge energy to a safe level. This arrester also has current limiting devices that help regulate the current passing through the arrester. These devices usually need to be replaced or retuned after each surge event to maintain the arrester\'s performance.
