Temperature Sensors - RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector)
The PPG102A6 is a popular RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) designed for applications requiring tight temperature control and accurate performance. This type of sensor is used in a variety of industries, from automotive, medical, aerospace and industrial applications, and is capable of measuring temperatures up to 572°F (300°C) with a high accuracy of 0.3⁰F (0.1⁰C). Thanks to their wide temperature range and reliable accuracy, these RTDs are ideal for applications where precise temperature regulation and monitoring are critical.
The PPG102A6 is constructed of a platinum sensing element housed within an isolated ceramic hermetic package. The sensing element is composed of very fine platinum wire wound into a formation known as a "Pt100 element", which means that it provides excellent temperature accuracy and stability over a wide range of temperatures. This sensing element is connected to two external resistors to form a three-wire circuit, allowing for precise, stable performance. The circuit is closed by a balanced bridge bridge, where the resistance values of both resistors are compared against the resistance of the sensing element and used to estimate the temperature.
The PPG102A6 uses a non-linear curve to determine the temperature value. This means that as the temperature increases, the resistance of the PPG102A6 increases at a decreasing rate. This non-linear curve allows for a more accurate reading at higher temperatures, making the PPG102A6 ideal for applications that require precise temperature control, such as medical and aerospace applications.
