Resistance temperature detectors (RTD) are one of the most popular types of temperature sensors. PPG102C2 is a type of RTD manufactured by Precision Sensors, Inc. and widely used for temperature measurement. It is designed to measure temperatures in the range of -45°C to 850°C (-49°F to 1562°F).
PPG102C2 RTD is a two-wire configuration consisting of an element made of platinum mounted in a stainless steel bolt head with an integral shielding and an insulated lead wire connected to the element. The components of the impact resistant insulated package are hermetically sealed in an epoxy type of enclosure to ensure a long-term reliable performance in harsh working environments. It is also designed to reduce thermal EMF effects, noise and power line interference.
The PPG102C2 RTD has a very high sensitivity and repeatability, making it suitable for use in accuracy-critical applications such as laboratory, medical, process control and monitoring, and heating applications. The resistance of the element is proportional to the temperature and is typically specified in ohms at 0°C or ohms/°C. Its accuracy is ±0.3°C in the temperature range of -30°C to 120°C, and ±1.5°C in the temperature range from -45°C to 850°C. This accuracy can be further improved with the use of a Pt.100 RTD element with higher accuracy.
The working principle of the PPG102C2 is based on the basic principle of electrical resistance. When a temperature change occurs, the RTD’s electrical resistance will correspondingly change due to the resistance of the metal element. This change in resistance can then be detected and measured to identify the current temperature of the environment.
The PPG102C2 RTD is widely used in temperature sensing applications where precise accuracy and repeatability are required. It can be used for various industrial and commercial applications such as laboratory measurement, medical equipment monitoring, process control, and heating applications.
