The PS2501L-1-M-A is an optisolator, or an optoelectronic device for electrical isolation, comprised of a light-emitting diode (LED) and a photosensitive transistor for signal transmission between two circuits. The optoisolator has two distinct parts and works by isolating one circuit from the other by converting the input and output electrical signals into light. The LED is the light source and is powered by the input signal from one circuit while the phototransistor is sensitive to the light in the LED and outputs the signal to the other circuit, thereby providing a continuous electrical path between the two circuits while preventing the current from flowing back in the opposite direction. This type of optoisolator is referred to as a transistor, photovoltaic output type and is often used in applications with high-voltage signals or dangerous electrical environments.

The PS2501L-1-M-A features an ultra-small size and is highly reliable, making it easy to use in the smallest of applications.
