The PT4225C is an offline LED driver in the form of a non-isolated step-down DC-DC module. It is based on the proprietary constant-off-time current-mode control architecture. This control architecture is designed to provide optimum control and efficiency over wide input voltage and load conditions. The PT4225C is ideally suited for driving high-brightness LED arrays in both indoor and outdoor applications in various lighting equipment and MSFF (Mono/Stereo/Full-frame) LCD backlighting.

Operating Working Principle

The PT4225C DC-DC module can work at a wide range of input voltage from 4.7V to 40V. It has built-in over voltage protection (OVP), which will shut down the device when the input voltage rises above 36V. The device can withstand up to 6A continuous current and 30A short-circuit current while providing up to 95% efficiency.

The PT4225C enables users to precisely control the LED current and brightness with its programmable LED current. By setting the external resistor value, users can precisely control the LED current accuracy within 1%. The device also has a low shutdown current of 10µA, which helps it to save power when it is inactive.

The working principle of the device is simple. The input voltage is converted to a regulated output voltage with the help of a bridge diode, an inductor, or a transformer. The output voltage is then controlled by an integrated switch or via a pulse width modulator. The output is regulated by varying the switching frequency or duty cycle of the switch.
