The introduction of integrated ICs has readied power conversion for use in much more sophisticated and demanding tasks in the consumer, industrial, medical, and automotive industries.The PT5802N DC-DC converter is a two-channel integrated IC developed for high efficiency, high frequency, and adjustable input and output current capability applications. It features a maximum power efficiency of 96.2%, configured in its most efficient form with a single inductor and an input/output voltage range of 4.5V to 26V/ 0.5V to 16V. The integrated IC also features an adjustable output current limit protection and adjustable cycle-by-cycle current limit protection.The PT5802N is operated at PWM mode with a frequency range from 250 KHz to 2.5MHz and an external synchronization frequency range from 50Hz to 800Hz. The architecture of the PT5802N has a 2-phase interleaved fixed frequency PWM operation that helps reduce the overall component count and size of the board. It is a single IC with two isolated outputs that can operate at different frequencies in order to reduce the noise. The PT5802N can handle cases of over current surge up to 3A (including output short circuit protection).The general architecture of the PT5802N includes an input stage with an integrated power MOSFET that efficiently converts from the input voltage to the internal VCC voltage. This VCC voltage is used to drive the PWM section, and is controlled by the error amplifier and internal clock. The PWM signals are then sent to the output stage which consists of two N-channel power MOSFET\'s in a parallel configuration. This configuration helps to equalize the power distribution between the two channel outputs and also helps in reducing the power dissipation of the IC itself.The output stage of the PT5802N is further enhanced by the integrated over-current protection (OCP). This feature helps to provide a safe limit of current by monitoring the voltage drop across the internal OCP resistor. It also includes an adjustable output current limit protection (OCL) as well as an adjustable cycle-by-cycle current limit protection.The PT5802N is designed for use in automotive applications and is capable of working in high temperature (up to 150°C) without the need for external cooling components. It supports a wide range of input and output voltage as well as working frequency, making it an ideal candidate for DC-DC converter applications. The integration of the input and output stages with the protection features of the IC provides a cost-effective and energy-efficient solution for many power needs.
