DC DC Converters

A DC-DC converter is a device that changes the voltage of a direct current (DC) source, such as a battery or wall outlet. It can convert a lower voltage to a higher voltage or a higher voltage to a lower voltage. PT6345A Working Principle
The PT6345A comes with an integrated full-bridge driver, high voltage and multimode switch, and advanced digital enable control. It is designed to generate Vin-related auxiliary voltage for off-line applications. When Pt6345A is powered up, it first enters the enable mode. The PWM signals generated by the internal oscillator circuits open and close the two control switches in alternation, thus extracting energy from the input voltage, and converting it into the output. This result in a charge-discharge cycle of the inductor, thus generating the output voltage. Once the PWM signals are triggered and the two control switches are closed, the voltage across the two control switches forms a voltage divider network. This feature reduces the voltage applied to the gate of the high side switch, and thus increases the output regulation linearity and efficiency. The output voltage is monitored by an internal compensation circuit. When the output voltage drops below the preset regulation voltage, the frequency will be changed to increase the energy stored in the inductor and result in higher output voltage. The frequency of the PWM signal is not affected by the load current, which gives the PT6345A a low output impedance and a very fast transient response.
