Film capacitors are components used to build a simple capacitor and control the flow of electric energy in a variety of applications including high-frequency circuits, signal processing, and various industrial and consumer electronic devices. They are also used in numerous other electronic products, including DC-DC converters, UPS systems, and telecommunication systems. As with other types of capacitors, these are typically constructed from a film material that is interleaved between two conductive plates, usually made of copper or aluminum. The film material acts as a dielectric, or insulator, and controls the amount of current that can be transferred between two sides of the capacitor.

The PVC12147 film capacitor is a part of the extreme-voltage class of film capacitors, offering up to 9700VAC peak of barrier voltage. It is designed to handle high potential and voltage differences, this capacitor can also be used in applications where extreme operating temperature and high humidity are present. Besides, it is also known for its low dissipation factor, makes it ideal for industrial applications.

The PVC12147 is a radial, non-encapsulated capacitor which can be used in electrical circuits to store electrical charge temporarily. It enforces an electromagnetic field between its metal plates, allowing the capacitor to accumulate charge. When the current through the circuit slows, the capacitor rectifies the signal by releasing a stable voltage. The dielectric used in the capacitor is a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film which is thermostable, flame retardant, and resistant to compression, oxidization and other degradation.

PVC12147’s main feature is its extremely high breakdown voltage, reaching up to 9700VAC peak. This is achieved by a novel design which utilizes two interlaced layers of PVDF and DuPont™ Kapton® insulation. The PVDF layer is wrapped around the inner Kapton® layer –constituting a three-layer insulation system – which provides a larger surface area and higher energy density as well as a greater stability of the field. This provides superior long-term reliability, with a life expectancy of 15 years.

Noise suppression is another key feature. All of its terminals are metallized to ensure excellent conductivity, preventing both stray capacitance and high-frequency noise. Its low dissipation factor reduces current loss and reduces heat generation, which makes it ideal for industrial applications where heat generation must be minimized.

The PVC12147 film capacitor is a great choice for a variety of applications such as power supplies, switching power supplies, snubbers, motor drives, UPS systems, DC-DC converters, and telecommunication.
