Film capacitors are widely used in various applications due to their high dielectric strength, low leakage current and excellent temperature stability. The PVC16275 is a film capacitor designed for lighting, motor control and other general purpose applications.
PVC16275 is composed of two polypropylene films with different thicknesses. The thinner layer is a ground film, which acts as the cathode in the capacitor. The thicker layer is the active layer of the capacitor, which acts as the anode. In the anode, a thin metal film, usually aluminum or zinc, helps to provide the stability and low leakage current which is crucial for applications such as lighting or motor control. If aluminum or zinc is not used, then the anode can also be made from a polymer.
As far as the physical construction of PVC16275, it consists of two discs of polypropylene with anin-between aluminum or zinc layer, and a central core. This core acts as the supports for the two main layers and can be an epoxy or ceramic to provide extra strength and electrical insulation. The discs are then connected with two outer sleeves of the same material, which are heat welded together to ensure the two discs remain in alignment.
The working principle of the PVC16275 is that electrons flow between the two layers and the dielectric material between them, allowing for voltage to be stored. When current passes through the capacitor, it is stored in the dielectric material as electrical charge, and released when the current is switched off. The thickness of the dielectric material and the amount of charge stored in the capacitor determines the capacitance and voltage rating, and this is why capacitors with different rated capacitances must be chosen depending on the application.
The PVC16275 capacitor is well suited for applications such as lighting, motor control and other general purposes where current is likely to vary or quick transients are to occur. The low leakage current ensures a stable voltage output and the excellent temperature stability ensures that the performance of the capacitor is maintained within a wide temperature range. The relatively low cost of the capacitor makes it ideal for customers seeking to save costs in their designs.
