Optoisolators - Transistor, Photovoltaic Output: PVI5050NS Application Field and Working Principle
Optoisolators, also known as optocouplers, are electronic components that enable electrical signals to pass between two isolated circuits while providing electrical insulation. The optoisolator detects the input voltage and triggers a current trough LED, that is then detected by the photovoltaic cell and triggers output current in the related circuit. This method isolates the input circuit from the output circuit and eliminates the chances of an electric shock or hazardous current passing through the system. It also protects the system from power surges and reduces false tripping from EMI and RFI interference.
The PVI5050NS optoisolator has a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C and it can withstand a maximum input voltage of 8.85V and a maximum output voltage of 8.5V. The optoisolator is also UL recognized and offers a dynamic resistance of 200Ω and earthing resistance of 10Ω. The component is encased in a 6-pin DIP package which allows it to be mounted directly on the printed circuit board.
