Application Field
The Q2025N5RP is a powerful device that handles high current with a rated 600V AC breakover, suitable for switching currents up to 8A RMS and ratings up to 25A inductive load. Working Principle
Unlike other thyristors, the Q2025N5RP does not require a control gate to operate. It is a three-terminal bidirectional device that produces a bidirectional conducting path. This bidirectional conducting path is formed by two junctions, which are mounted orthogonally and independently. This device is triggered by a positive or negative gate current; it then switches on and conducts current until the main current drops to a cutoff value. Due to its orthogonal configuration, this device enables efficient current conduction over both positive and negative cycles of the line voltage.
This device employs a special avalanche mechanism to aid in high current conduction. When triggered by a high voltage negative or positive gate-triggered avalanche outward current (OVC) flows from the junction, this initiates current conduction from the other junction and eventually the device will turn on. This rapid avalanche mechanism operates with more flexibility during the conduction state, which enables it to handle high currents for the duration of the conduction period.
The Q2025N5RP is designed to provide excellent immunity to transients and noise. Its built-in overvoltage clamping mechanism senses overvoltage and limits its magnitude to a higher value, thus preventing its damage from intensive overvoltage. This feature also reduces the number of components used in the circuit to maintain its safety.
