Introduction

A Thyristor is a semiconductor device with three terminals, commonly known as the TRIAC. It is a subset of solid-state reactance that contains two thyristors connected together in inverse parallel. A TRIAC is dichotomous device, meaning it can bidirectionally control the current. This makes it an ideal component to be used in AC radio frequencies. The Q6008VH3 is a TRIAC with an RMS current rating of 8A and a repetitive peak off-state voltage rating of 400V. Working Principle

Q6008VH3 is a reverse blocking Thyristor and it works by conducting current when its Gate pin receives a pulse input of equal or greater voltage than its breakdown voltage (<20V) or C.T (Thyristor Control). TRIACs are bidirectional semiconductor that can be used to control AC circuits. They are often used to create a digital switching system for this application, by using the Gate pin to turn on and off at specific times. For example, C.T sensitive voltages can be applied to switch it on at certain AC cycles of the input voltage; the same voltage can be used to switch it off by controlling the Gate pin.

Safety Considerations

Q6008VH3 should be used with proper safety precautions, as it can handle large amounts of electricity. A fuse or circuit breaker should be used in order to protect the device and circuit components.
