Q6025L6 application field and working principle
Thyristors, also known as TRIACs, have been available since the 1960s and are widely used in various industrial and commercial applications as well as in consumer products. They are designed to produce current flow or switch in two directions between two terminals, known as Anode and Cathode. TRIACs are used as power electronic switches and in systems where rapid switching is needed, such as analog-to-digital converters or pulse-controlled motors.
The Q6025L6 is an optically triggered, zero-crossing switch for 6A applications. It contains an optically coupled SCR that prevents false triggering when a very high intensity light strikes its photosensitive diodes. It is available in the TO-220-3 package, with a +85° C limit Tj.
The Q6025L6 is typically used in phase control and motor speed applications. It is also used in situations where false triggering must be avoided and also where high-speed switching of high currents is required. The device provides high commutating power and low turn-on delays. With its zero-crossing functionality, it can be used in light dimmers, motor speed controllers, power supplies, and uninterruptible power supply.
Working principle: The Q6025L6 is an optically triggered low power SCR. It consists of two separate optically coupled thyristors, an SCR and a TRIAC, which are integrated into a single package. The SCR is triggered by the application of an optical signal to its photosensitive trigger diodes. When an optical signal is applied, the SCR is fired and the current sector from Anode to Cathode is opened and the TRIAC is fired. Once the device is turned on, current flows in both directions in cycles and is regulated by the two thyristors.
In order to ensure that the Q6025L6 is triggered at the precise moment needed, the photosensitive diodes are sensitive to a very precise voltage level. If a luminous intensity exceeds this precise voltage level, the thyristor is fired and the current flow is controlled. The device is capable of carrying an AC current up to 6A and is rated for 85°C.
The Q6025L6 is an extremely efficient and reliable switch suitable for a wide range of applications. It provides precise current control, fast switching of heavy currents, and is robust in use even in harsher environments.
